Ulupinar receives FBI award /news/ulupinar-receives-fbi-award/ Mon, 06 May 2024 19:19:20 +0000 /news/?p=23875

FBI Director Christopher Wray with Mehmet Ulupinar

FBI Director Christopher Wray presented Mehmet Ulupinar with the FBI Director鈥檚 Community Leadership Award (DCLA) for his service to the citizens of Little Rock through his work as president of the board for the Arkansas Culture and Dialog Center (ACDC). The award was presented during a ceremony held at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in April.

Ulupinar is an international admission counselor in the Center for Global Learning and Engagement. He has been with 小草影院 since 2015.聽 ACDC is a nonprofit organization that aims to promote the understanding of diverse cultures through the unique services it offers to the community.

The FBI established the DCLA in 1990 to publicly acknowledge the achievements of those working to make a difference in their communities through the promotion of education and the prevention of crime and violence. Each year, one person or organization from each of the FBI鈥檚 56 field offices is chosen to receive this prestigious award.

“Our success as both a law enforcement and an intelligence agency hinges on our ability to foster and maintain genuine partnerships with people in all communities,鈥 said Wray. 鈥淧eople like this year鈥檚 Leadership Award recipients not only identify what others need, but they are willing to roll up their sleeves and provide services. They are building bridges and relationships while putting in the work to have hard conversations and find common purpose. They do it out of kindness and compassion with a sincere belief that justice 鈥 in its many forms 鈥 requires all of us to do the right thing in the right way.”

Ulupinar works to foster relationships between diverse communities and law enforcement in Arkansas by providing easily accessible educational, social, and cultural services at ACDC. Dr. Ulupinar assists the FBI in pushing key safety concerns to minority youth and adults throughout central Arkansas through trainings and networking events with the goal of creating a safer and more connected community.

小草影院 Police Department Receives Re-Accreditation Status聽 /news/uca-police-department-receives-re-accreditation-status/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 13:04:24 +0000 /news/?p=23822 The Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation Committee has voted to bestow Tier 1 Advanced Re-Accreditation to the 小草影院 Police Department for the next three years.聽

The Arkansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP) is a voluntary process where police agencies in Arkansas prove their compliance with Arkansas law enforcement鈥檚 current best practices or Standards.聽

An agency that has been awarded Tier 1 (Advanced) status has undertaken a careful internal review of all of its policies and procedures, equipment, facilities, and operations and has then requested an outside review to prove its compliance with the standards.聽

The accreditation was first awarded to the department in 2017 and then again in 2022.聽

小草影院PD Chief John Merguie said, “I am very pleased that the department has been able to once again complete the re-accreditation process for the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to our campus community, and accreditation helps validate that commitment.”聽

“The accreditation process ensures that the department is adhering to the best practice standards as set forth by the Association. These standards evolve as time goes by, so the re-accreditation helps keep the department updated and focused,” said Michael Hopper, public information officer for 小草影院PD.

The department provides around-the-clock law enforcement, public safety, emergency management and 9-1-1 services to the 小草影院 community.

小草影院 receives one of the largest gifts in university history /news/uca-receives-one-of-the-largest-gifts-in-university-history/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 19:17:19 +0000 /news/?p=23790
Interior Design class at 小草影院

Interior Design class at 小草影院

The 小草影院 has received a $5 million anonymous gift to support the interior design program in the Department of Art and Design.聽

鈥淭his very generous gift will be transformative for a growing program with a national reputation for high-quality and accomplished graduates. These funds will ensure the retention and recruitment of outstanding faculty and make certain that our students are placed in challenging and meaningful experiential learning opportunities,鈥 said 小草影院 President Houston Davis.

The gift establishes two categories of endowed funds to support the interior design program. The majority of the gift, $4 million, will be used to endow faculty positions allowing at least four named professorships. The remaining $1 million will be designated to support internship and experiential learning opportunities for students.聽

鈥淥ur students already participate in a number of professional development opportunities, such as national conferences, community-based projects,聽 and certification exams. This gift will allow us to expand access to these kinds of real-world learning environments, which are invaluable to students as they prepare to begin their careers in interior design,鈥澛 said Patricia Poulter, provost and executive vice president. 鈥淲e are grateful for this gift and what it will allow us to accomplish on behalf of the students.鈥

All students must complete an internship before they graduate. Nearly 60 businesses across Arkansas currently serve as internship partners with the interior design program.聽

The interior design program at 小草影院 has seen a 41% increase in enrollment since 2016-17.聽 On average, matriculation for students in the program occurs in a little more than four years.聽

Amy Ling 鈥23 saw the program expand throughout her time as a student.

鈥淚 knew interior design was such a hidden gem,鈥 Ling said. 鈥淭he program is very impressive, and I know the faculty work extremely hard to help the program grow.鈥

Ling currently works as an interior designer at Conway-based Miah Millan Interiors. She said that at the start of her time at 小草影院, many of her friends were unaware that 小草影院 had an interior design major. By her senior year, she had begun working as a peer coach and noticed that fellow students were increasingly aware of the program.聽

Emily Flake 鈥21 was initially undeclared when she enrolled at 小草影院. Through a meeting with interior design professors, she learned more about the major and the profession.聽

鈥淭he professors truly treat you like you are a part of their family, and they really want to see you thrive and succeed. They鈥檙e very hands-on with helping students find internships and job opportunities,鈥 said Flake. The Conway native currently works at Evo Business Environments in Rogers.聽

Tia Curtis started her professional journey in interior design two days after crossing the commencement stage in 2006. As an interior designer, her career has been focused primarily on the aviation industry. She currently works in Georgia as principal designer for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation.

鈥淲hen most people hear 鈥榠nterior design,鈥 they think only residential or commercial. So, the wonderful thing that [the interior design program professors] would do is bring in designers from different disciplines 鈥 whether it鈥檚 hospitality design, lighting design, or healthcare design 鈥 to share their careers so that we know what possibilities聽 there are in the realm of [interior] design.鈥

Kionna Browning works as an interior designer at Arkansas Children鈥檚 Hospital. The August 2022 graduate appreciates the value that benefactors are seeing in 小草影院.聽

鈥淚 am glad that donors are investing and looking more into interior design because it is one of the most important careers,鈥 Browning said. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e learning how to draft and hand-draft things. You鈥檙e learning how to calculate how much lighting needs to go into a room and learning all the different codes about stairwells and making sure that places in buildings are accessible.鈥澛
