The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is a broad multidisciplinary degree for individualsÌýwho have the equivalent of an associate degree with at least 60 hours of college creditÌýincluding the State Minimum Core but have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

Interested students who have not completed the equivalent of an associate degree may be initially enrolled in the Associate of Arts (AA) degree program in General Education and work with an Academic AdvisorÌýto complete the State Minimum Core and at least 60 hours of credit. Assuming all appropriate prerequisites have been met, students enrolled in the AA program may also complete courses in fulfillment of the BGS. Interested students should contact an Academic Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts.ÌýOnline students will focus on two minors that are approved by the program academic advisor. (see below)

*Students without the above listed requirements are not guaranteed online course availability and time to graduation is likely to increase in length.


It is not designed for:

  • First-time freshmen
  • Students seeking prerequisite courses for other majors or graduate degrees
  • Students seeking random online courses
  • Students who already have a bachelor’s degree

ÌýProgram Requirements BEFORE entry:

Students who have already earned:

  • (Required for Entry) A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, and at least one of the two options below:
  • (Highly Recommended) An Associate Degree from one of С²ÝӰԺ’sÌýArkansas Community College Partners.
  • 60 hours toward a liberal arts degree including the State Minimum core.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of General Studies requires online students to complete a total ofÌý60 upper division credit hoursÌýcomprised of the following:

  • 18 credit hours in a first minor
  • 18 credit hours in a second minor
  • 20 credit hours of elective courses
  • 4 credit hours ofÌýGeneral Studies Professional Readiness (GEST 3180) and General Studies Capstone (GEST 4380).
